The seat

We are the outsourced marketing department for a dozen UK restaurant brands. Clients hitting £100k weeks, videos past 20 million views, number one spots on TripAdvisor. Behind that sits Slate, our own operating platform, and an AI-heavy stack that runs scheduling, client portals and per-client agents.

This is a UK hybrid role: remote most of the time, and out on the road to see clients. Our clients are restaurants, and the person they deal with should be able to walk into the room, see what the place is actually like, be there on shoot days, and bring that back into the plan. Expect a client visit most months once you are up to speed, across Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Bath, Cheltenham and wherever the next ones are.

You work alongside three people. The Creative Director owns the creative: the shoots, the cuts, what the content is. The Senior Marketing Operations Lead owns the systems: the automations, the landing pages, the campaign builds, the technical side. The founder owns the relationships today and wants to hand most of that to you. You own the month for your clients: what goes out and when, that it is right, and that the client feels looked after the whole way through. You are the last pair of eyes before anything reaches a client, and the person who answers when they message.

It starts part time, two to three days a week, because the first job is a handful of clients done properly. We are taking on more clients every quarter and the intention is that this becomes full time as the list grows, with you.

What the work actually is

Seven things that came through this desk in the last month. Client names and links removed, nothing else changed. If most of these read as a good day rather than a bad one, apply.

  1. 1A cut lands for a Friday launch and the dish in it is not on the menu the client sent last week. Work out which is current before anyone else sees the video, and be the reason it does not go out wrong.
  2. 2A client goes quiet for nine days, then messages at 9pm to say the month has been disappointing. Be on a call the next morning with the numbers already pulled and a plan for the next fortnight.
  3. 3"Can we do something for Halloween" is the whole brief. Turn it into a campaign the Creative Director can shoot and an editor can build, without going back to the client three times.
  4. 4Twenty-one campaigns are booked for next month and nothing has been made against any of them. Work out which ones actually matter to each client's trading, sequence them, and get the briefs in.
  5. 5A shoot day moves at 36 hours' notice because the venue has taken a private hire. Rebook the crew, tell the client in a way that does not turn it into a crisis, and protect the content that was going to come from it.
  6. 6A new client still owes us their access form, brand profile and ad account three weeks after onboarding. Get them in without becoming the person who only ever messages to chase.
  7. 7A renewal is six weeks out. Build the case: what we delivered, what moved, and what has been blocked on their side the whole time, so the founder walks into that call with it already done.

The core role

  • Be the last check before a client sees anything: cuts, captions, covers, links, automations, dates. If it is wrong, it stops with you.
  • Own a portfolio of clients day to day: the relationship, the month ahead, the monthly check-in call, and the experience of working with us.
  • Run the content schedule for your clients in Slate: pieces prepped, covers chosen, dates set, approvals chased, nothing going out late or unchecked.
  • Turn what a client asks for into a brief the Creative Director and editors can build from without coming back for the missing half.
  • Review editor cuts before they reach a client and give feedback specific enough to act on.
  • Keep each client's DM and comment automations saying the right thing · the Senior Marketing Operations Lead builds them, you check and test them.
  • Own the value adds for your clients: the quick wins checklist (email signatures, listings, links, landing pages) and the longer plays, so the client sees the whole service, not just the content.
  • Be on the ground: client visits, shoot days alongside the Creative Director, the odd casting call, and the follow-ups that come from being in the room.
  • Bring the numbers to renewals: what we delivered, what moved, what is blocked on their side, so the founder walks into every renewal call with the case already built.

What you'll do

  • Take a brief, confirm it back in a few lines, then deliver it end to end.
  • Handle client WhatsApp and email yourself, in our voice, without needing every message checked first.
  • Click every link, test-message every flow, and attach the evidence when you report it done.
  • Comment on and approve editor cuts, chase the revisions, keep the pipeline moving so nothing sits waiting on you.
  • Chase the onboarding pieces a new client owes us: access forms, brand profile, ad accounts, domains. Keep the access register honest.
  • Coordinate shoot days and be the calm one when a shoot day moves. Travel to them when it helps.
  • Notice when a client's own information is wrong or out of date, and say so rather than copying it forward.
  • Escalate anything you are stuck on inside 30 minutes, with what you have already ruled out.
  • Close each working day in your own words: what shipped, what is verified, what is blocked, the next day's one priority.
  • Keep everything in Slate. It is the one place the team and the client hub read from.

How we work

  • Two to three days a week to start, hours flexible around UK client hours. Full time is the plan as the client list grows.
  • Hybrid: remote by default, on the road to clients across the UK when it matters, travel and stays paid.
  • Paid trial before anything permanent · one to two weeks on real work at the full rate. Execution does not show up on a CV.
  • Definition of Done here = verified outcome plus evidence, every time.
  • One source of truth: our internal system, Slate. Our knowledge, projects and task lists live in the system.
  • Everything client-facing gets a two-minute check against their own site, files or listings before it goes out.
  • A small senior team that works as a team: founder, Creative Director, Senior Marketing Operations Lead, Lead Editor and editors.

Inside the setup

  • Slate · our own platform (Next.js, Supabase) running scheduling, tasks, client portals and finance
  • ManyChat for DM and comment automations, Buffer for scheduling, Frame.io for content review, Meta Business Suite, Google Business Profile
  • Claude and AI agents in daily production use, including automations clients pay for
  • Clients across Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Bath and Cheltenham, with more coming

The ideal person

  • Two to four years as the day-to-day contact for clients at an agency, or running social and marketing for a hospitality brand yourself. This is a doing role rather than a strategy-deck role.
  • Comfortable being the client's main point of contact. You can hold a check-in call, say no politely, and come off a difficult message without needing to be talked down afterwards.
  • Happy on the road. You would rather see the restaurant than read about it, and a shoot day is a good day.
  • You verify by reflex. You would not tell someone a link works without clicking it, and you would rather find the mistake than have a client find it.
  • Confident with AI in day to day marketing work: drafting, research, and checking what it produces before anyone else sees it.
  • You look before you ask. If the answer is on the client's website or in the shared folder, you have already found it.
  • Organised in public: your work is visible in the system without anyone having to ask where things are.
  • UK based, with the right to work here and able to travel. Central Scotland, the North West or the South West is a plus, not a requirement.

Read this bit twice

We would rather you closed this tab than spent twenty minutes on the form and a fortnight finding out. This seat is not for you if:

  • You want a strategy-deck seat. Our software does the reporting and the founder sets direction · this is owning the month and being the person the client messages.
  • You would rather not travel. Client visits and shoot days across the UK are part of the job, not an occasional extra.
  • You need every client message checked before you send it. You will be trusted with the relationship early.
  • You tell people something is done because you finished it, rather than because you watched it work.
  • You would rather send a careful email than pick up the phone when something has gone wrong.
  • You are not based in the UK, or you do not have the right to work here.

How hiring runs here

  1. 1

    Apply

This form. Fifteen minutes · the more specific you are, the easier it is for us to review your application.

  2. 2

    We read it properly

Every application gets read by a human. We will respond to you whether successful or not.

  3. 3

    Interview

A conversation with the founder, then a second with the Creative Director and the Senior Marketing Operations Lead · the two people you would work alongside every day.

  4. 4

    Paid trial

One to two weeks on real client work at the full rate. You do the actual job, paid, and we both decide from there. Execution and judgement do not show up on a CV.

You are the glue between the client and the delivery, and the reason nothing sloppy reaches them. When it works, a client feels looked after, the team knows exactly what to build, and the founder is out of the day-to-day.

Not the right fit if you want defined processes and a fixed brief every morning, or if you never want to leave the desk. Right fit if you would rather own a client's week and be trusted with it, if "done" already means "I checked it" to you, and if you want a part-time start that grows into the full-time job as the list does.

We start with a paid trial of one to two weeks on live work. No long interview process and no take-home exercise written for its own sake. You do the actual job, paid, and we both decide from there.

Money, geography and availability up front. If we are not in the same range we would both rather know now than after a call.

Optional · a date helps us plan.
This starts at two to three days a week and moves to full time as the client list grows. Give us the day rate you would actually accept, and say whether you would rather invoice or go on payroll. We filter against a band before we speak rather than finding out on a call.
